WRITING FOLDER --COMPARISON

       Pick ONE of the following subjects and write about 200  words for
       your writing folder.

       Your paragraph MUST have:
                
                1- a good topic sentence
                2- several points of contrast and comparison.  You should
                 alternate the points.
                3- a good concluding sentence.
        
       
       >>> Jot down as many ideas as you can-- this is brain storming. 
       
       >>> Write a rough copy.

       >>> Have someone read it over and mark any errors

       >>> Correct the original and then hand-in all of the copies.

       1. Write a comparison/contrast of two unlike things. Some
       possibilities are:

                        --a tape and a compact disk
                        --you and your brother or sister
                        --a skateboard and a bicycle
                        --a swimming pool and a lake
                        --rock and country music

       Make a list of all of the areas to be compared before you start.
                    OR

       Write TWO letters to the editor.  The two letters will represent
       the two different sides of an issue.  The letter writers can be of
       different ages and should be completely opposed to each other.
       Some possibilities are:

                -- skateboarding from a skater's and a mall owner's sides
                -- not wearing hats as seen by a hat wearer and the vice
                   principal
                -- homework-- yours and the teacher's points of view
                -- you as a brave person



       You will only have two periods so don't sit around and think of a
       topic for too long--- start now; time's 'a wastin'.
