DRAMATIC INTERPRETATION FOR A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE SPEECH/DRAMA Assignment: Choose a partner with whom you can work easily. You will choose one of the following character(s): Blanche, Mitch, Stanley, Stella. We need to have at least one group per character. Skim the play and write down at least 12 lines that help to establish that character’s personality. You may write down as many as you like, but you will be asked to narrow your selection to 12-15 lines. You and your partner will perform a dramatic interpretation of these lines. You MUST MEMORIZE your lines. You may speak these lines however you wish. You should try to vary the way lines are spoken: alternate the reading of lines, speak some lines in unison,or speak different lines at the same time. You may also repeat as many of the lines as you wish during the interpretation. You may sequence your lines however you wish, but you must provide a justification for your lines(i.e., why are they in this order); chronological order is NOT appropriate justification. Be creative and think about the effect you want your listeners to experience; you will include this within your justification. (For example, we used the line "…" 5 times, gradually increasing the volume it was spoken each time to show the increasing violence in the play.) You will be scored according to the attached rubric. You must turn in the following on the day of your performance: 1) List of 12-15 lines used; 2) List of lines as they will be performed; 3) Justification for choice of line sequencing, including listing the effect you wish your listeners to experience.
