Following you will find a copy of a worksheet to be used as a lesson plan in giving students hands on experience in finding their way around the library. The first section is a list of call numbers so students can go directly to the shelves to find the book (you'd be surprised at how many, after they look up books in card catalog, cannot find the book on the shelf-- especially if it is in the reference section or the biography section). Other questions are designed to have students use online catalog, special reference works, and indexes. Since I designed this lesson for ninth graders I chose to wait for another day to introduce Reader's Guide, and using the Internet. I have trouble with students wanting to copy from the encyclopedia for their reports so I make a copy of a fact sheet about a president and give them practice in writing in paragraphs, and creating their own report. *************************************************** Using the Library Media Center Name_______________________________ 1.
