THE GRAPES OF WRATH: A HOOVERVILLE IN ANCASTER SITUATION: A "Hooverville", consisting of homeless people looking for work, has been set up in the field across from Ancaster High. A community meeting has been convened to discuss the problem and come up with a "solution". Amongst the participants in the meeting are the following: The Police Chief The Mayor The M.P.P for Wentworth-Burlington The local Business Association A representative of the Ancaster Parents' Council A minister from one of the area churches A member of Ancaster High's Student Council A representative of the Homeowners' Association TASK: In groups of three, you will devise, present, and debate at the community meeting the position your representative would have about the current situation. Generally, you must consider how the person or group you represent would react to the presence of a Hooverville. Be honest! As well, what solutions to the problem would your "special interest" propose? EVALUATION: To be based on thoroughness of preparation and articulation of positions.
