Romeo and Juliet Project: A “Perfect Album Side” When I was growing up there was a local radio station that used to have listeners send in their five or six favorite songs, in other words, their “perfect album side.” Then, the radio station would play the songs along with the listener’s reasons why these songs were their favorites. Since Romeo and Juliet has five acts, we are going to do something similar. The purpose of this project is to combine your love of music and lyrics, creative talent, and interpretation of the play. This assignment has two parts: the selection and representation of songs, and a written essay. You will have plenty of time to complete this project. The due date is_______________________ Step One: As you read and finish each act, try to determine what you feel is either the theme or mood of that act. In other words, what is the main feeling or impression that you feel after reading the act? Step Two: Select a piece of music that fits the theme, mood, or feeling of each act. When you choose songs, try to remember what the characters were thinking or doing. Copy, print from the internet, or type the lyrics. NOTE: If there are any words that are not school appropriate, please delete or mark them out. Additional note: If there are more than two words that need deletion, then that song is not appropriate for this project. (You may choose to select more than one song per act, but you will not receive extra credit) Step Three: Once you have finished selecting the songs for each of the five acts, compose an essay explaining why you selected each song for each act, and why it represents it in your opinion. Remember the techniques to use when writing an expository essay. (Hint: Not every essay is a five paragraph essay; this essay should have seven paragraphs and be typed.) Step Four: Creatively find a way to display your lyrics related to each act. Scoring: 5 songs/lyrics 50 points Display 50 points Essay 100 points
